Waubra Waffle, week ending 9th May

This week we welcome Gordon to our Community Hub in what promises to be a great day of football and netball. Today we celebrate our ladies that are involved with our club and we take the time to say thank you for all of the hard work you put in by holding our “Ladies Day”. Whether it be mums, wives, partners, girlfriends, sisters, or just friends, you all put a lot into our club and we are very thankful to you! Today will also see us supporting ‘Pink’ day where we will raise money for Breast Cancer Research. If you can afford to give please do!

Last week we travelled to our arch rivals Learmonth to play for the Ford Clark cup which we had held for quite some time. Unfortunately we were beaten by a better side on the day and were unable to hold onto the cup. Better players were Tom Nijam, Jason Delaney, James Rushton, Tom Nash, Jason Allen and Shaun Mullane. Our reserves had another good performance beating Learmonth convincingly and consolidating their position in the top 8. Best players were Tom Cullinan, James Petrie, David Amaterstein, Rohan Brown, Alex McPherson and Leigh Hutchinson. Our under 17 boys who were undermanned battled extremely hard all day however went down to a well drilled Learmonth team. Better players for the day were Brock Amendola, Jacob Grigg, Laurence Cashin, Hayden Winfield, Thomas Hedley, and Mitch Kelly. It has been a hard start to the year for our under 17 boys however the signs keep getting better with a real improvement showing each week. Well done to Jake Whelan and the coaching staff on your efforts to date. Our under 14.5 boys also came up against a strong Learmonth team and again tried hard however were outclassed. Better players on the day were Nathan Rozitis, Jayden Severino, Sam Cullinan, Sam Cashin, Jaden Hande and Dylan Hinchliffe. Our under 12 boys football came up against a very well drilled Learmonth team and although we tried really hard we were unable to come away with a win. Well done to Robbie Gordon and Tige Severino on their efforts to date with our under 12 boys who have shown huge improvement.

On the netball courts it was a very successful day with all but the U17 girls recording wins. Most teams were pleased to play in the sunshine, but by the time the A grades girls were out they were not quite so luck and got drenched. Thanks to the supporters who stood out in the rain to support the girls. The A, B and C grade teams remain undefeated and hope to continue this weekend against Gordon, before heading into the clubrooms to enjoy Ladies Day.

Tonight we have our goods and services auction from 6pm at the clubrooms. A bus will leave the Blue Bell Hotel at 5:15pm and return to Ballarat at around 11pm. The goods and services night is a major fundraiser for the club and will be a great chance to come and pick up a bargain! Tea will be available from the Forge Pizzeria from 5pm while Waubra Primary school will be running a BBQ on the night. As well as the auction we will also have Sean Woodland comedian providing great laughs on the night. For more details please speak to Rohan Brown, Chris Bourke, Ebony Corden or Carmen McTigue.

On the 12th July we have our Past Players and supporter’s day at the club rooms which is sure to be a fantastic day. Further details will be provided over the coming weeks.
