Waubra waffle, week ending 27th June

This week are back at home after a break to take on Creswick. Today’s football and netball games are sure to be tough for all grades. Last Saturday night we had our annual Waubra Ball which was a fantastic night and a really well attended evening. Thanks to everyone that helped out to make the night such a great success.

I want to start this week by congratulating Harrison Wrigglesworth who represented the U17 Central Highlands Interleague on the weekend. He represented the club extremely well and it is a terrific effort to be selected. Grace Todd showed her talent to be selected in the U15 Interleague side.

Last week we travelled to Clunes in wet conditions which saw real wet weather football being played. Our under 12 boys performed extremely well and had one of their best efforts for the year. Well done to Robbie Lockett and Tige on a great effort so far. Our under 14 boys came up against a strong Clunes team and were unfortunately not able to come away with a victory however they tried hard all day. Our under 17 boys were again undermanned however they battled extremely well but went down to a well drilled Clunes team. Our reserves and senior footballers both recorded strong victories in quite difficult conditions. Our reserves team had some familiar past players pull the boots on however most of them struggled to have any impact on the game and won’t be required again this season.

The netballers didn’t have to contend with the mud, but made ball handling a little more difficult. The U13 were accurate scoring 10 goals, but were beaten by a strong Clunes team. The U 15 girls had a thrilling match which ended in a draw. The U17’s had a close match, but ended up getting up by 3 goals in a low scoring game. The C graders were slow to start, with the scores even at three quarter time, but a strong final quarter resulted in a 8 goal win. The B grade girls are still looking strong on the top of the ladder and had a good win. The A grade girls also had a strong win in the rain.
