Waubra waffle, week ending 13th June

With no games last weekend we all enjoyed the break. In round 7 we hosted Newlyn, in a day that had perfect conditions for football and netball, still, dry and cool. The junior football teams had a tough day coming up against very strong Newlyn teams. Best for the U12’s was Luke Arvidson, U14.5 was James O’Brien and U17.5 was Lachlan Taylor.

The junior netball teams also had a tough day going down to Newlyn. Best for the U13B was Tammy Ebery, U13A’s best was Julia Cocksedge, the team did really well scoring 18 goals, but it wasn’t enough. The U15’s were beaten by a better team, but played a great game, with Lizzy Clark best. The U17 had a very close match, but went down by 2 goals, with Maggie Davidson best on.

The senior netball teams had a great weekend all recording wins. Best for C grade was Jacqui Luscombe who consistently made intercepts through the mid court. The B grade girls again posted a very strong win, with accurate shooting scoring 56 and limiting Newlyn to 11 goals, Eliza-Jane Clark was best, doing a great job in defence. The A grade girls also had a good win, with Kelly Moran best on, shooting many goals for the team.

The reserve footballers had a good win, playing particularly well in the second half. It was a team effort with 4 goals to C Molloy and N Hynes , but 12 other players also scored goals. Best on were J King, N Hynes, J McVitty, T Molloy, J Whelan and M Molloy.

In the senior football the game was fairly event for the first half, but in the second half Waubra took control of the match and the goals started flowing. The goals came from 13 players, so it was a team effort, among the best were T Madden, T Nash, T Nijam, J Delaney, J Rushton and R Philbey.

On the social side we have the Ball coming up after our round 9 clash with Clunes. It will be held at St Patricks Pavilion. Entry is $70 and includes 2 drinks, canapés on arrival and a two course sit down meal, contact Eb Corden for tickets. The sponsors and past players day will be on our round 12 game against Buninyong.

With the season well underway I’d like to thank all of our volunteers who make it possible for our club to run so successfully from week to week. From those who mow and mark the oval, to those running the canteen and chasing up clearances, helping with coaching, scoring, umpiring the list goes on and on.

GO ROOS!
