This week we are back at home after a break to take on Springbank. Today’s football and netball games against Buninyong are sure to be tough for all grades. In the senior and reserves football both teams are on 10 wins and 2nd V’s 3rd, so they are sure to be tough and entertaining matches. In the U17.5’s neither team has posted a win this season, so come along and support the boys, to help get them over the line. The C grade netballers remain undefeated this season, but it is another case of 2nd V 3rd so they will have to play well to keep this record intact.
Today is Sponsors and Past Players Day. We welcome and thank all our sponsors for your assistance in running the club and hope you enjoy your day. We look forward to seeing a few old faces returning today to what should be some great games of football and netball against a strong Buninyong outfit.
Last week we travelled to Springbank in wet and muddy conditions for the footballers. The U12’s were thrilled with their win, while the U14.5’s and U17.5’s put up a great effort, as always but were unable to come up with a win. The reserve boys battle it out in the mud, keeping Springbank to just one goal. Great defence was shown by their captain, with Wiggy best on, N Hynes, A McPherson, S Clark, J Petrie and L Davidson also had great games. The boys got up by 27 points. In the senior Football again it was a very low scoring affair, with only 2 goals kicked by either team, luckily they were by Jarryd Allen and Tom Nijam and the boys got up to win by 15 points. Best on were M. Wappling, T Mullane, N Sullivan, J Delaney, J Discher, and P Dodds.
At the start of the day we knew it would be a tough on the netball court all day and Springbank didn’t disappoint us in this area. The U13 girls got up by 4 goals, while the U15’s went down by 3. The U17’s faced a very strong and tall Springbank and went down. The senior teams faced their strongest competition for this season to date. The C grade girls battled and the match was even at three quarter time, but their characteristic 4th quarter push got them home, with great defence helping all day. Congratulations to Sophie Cullinan who played her 100th game last week, she has stepped up into senior netball being a dominant gaoler. The B grade girls battled hard, but went down by 4 goals. The A grade girls had a tough match and considering there was a number of regular players unavailable this week they played well, but were defeated.
With the wintery weather over the last few weekends it makes us thankful for the efforts our umpires and volunteers put in week after week. A special mention goes to PT who umpires does the central umpiring for the U17.5 and reserve football and now follows it up with goal umpiring for the senior game. Over at the netball Jordan umpires the U17 and C grade before coaching the B and A grades. There are too many to mention, but we thank everyone who has to get out in the weather or those who are a little more fortunate and can help out in a more sheltered position!
– Today we have ‘Sponsors and Past Players Day’. We invite everyone to stick around for dinner after the game, there will also be live entertainment, so stick around for a drink, thank the sponsors and catch up with some mates.
– In a fortnight we have our ‘Family Day’, which is played on SUNDAY 27th July. There will be free kids activities like a jumping castle and face painting as well as a scrubbers match at half time in the senior game. Come along it will be a great day!
