The Waubra Wind Farm has brought real and substantial economic benefits in the form of investment and jobs in the Ballarat region. It has created skilled employment opportunities and happily co-exists with existing agricultural enterprises.
200 direct manufacturing and installation jobs were generated during construction of the Waubra Wind Farm and 28 full-time jobs continue today through the operations and maintenance team employed at the site.
Since operations began in 2009, more than $11 million has been paid in wages to staff employed at Waubra with more than $3 million paid to the landholders who host the wind farm on their properties. Almost $1 million has been paid to Pyrenees Shire Council and City of Ballarat through rates.
Each year, more than $1 million is spent locally to support operations of the wind farm. More than 20 regional businesses have been involved with the wind farm since its construction.
